The Shadow System MR920 series is a Glock 19 size pistol. The pistol we're reviewing in this article, the MR920L, has a 19-gauge frame with a 17-gauge slide.
This is a format that people have wanted out of Glock for years. Glock never used this concept except when the Border Patrol released the Glock 47.
If you want something in this format, you'll either have to build it yourself using aftermarket parts or buy the MR920L.
Shadow Systems Cr920 Review: Covert Role Pistol
The short grip makes it a bit more hideous than a true size 17 ball. The long barrel does not pose a noticeable disadvantage.
If you carry this gun inside the waistband (IWB) between three and four o'clock, the extra barrel length makes no difference. In theory, the mouth could go down a bit and poke through your pants, but this isn't a common problem for most people and body types.
If you were to carry this gun beyond the waistband, the extra length would have made a big difference. You want to make sure that your shirt or jacket completely covers the bottom of the sleeves. A long gun can make this difficult.
If you're looking for a duty-sized weapon, you might as well go with a true 17-length grip. With it, you get the extra power offered by a weapon of that size.

In my opinion, the Shadow System MR920L is truly tuned for concealed carry. It's a thicker gun still based on the Glock design. Guns like the Glock 48 or SIG P365 XL won't be as thin or tall.
Therefore, you must understand that you are carrying a large weapon. Through this you will get some benefits. We will cover the following in the Shadow System MR920 review.
The Shadow Systems MR920L ships with two Magpul PMAG magazines from the factory. I like Magpul products, but I don't think they do well with Glock magazines.
I've had quite a bit of trouble with them, even though they're magazines I've bought before.
The Shadow Systems Mr920
I'm shooting the Glock Magpul in this review, but I was able to shoot 500 rounds through one of them. This is the point where my old journal started to fail.
I haven't seen any signs of failure so far. Also, I didn't push hard enough to see if they would fail later.
While I hope they bring Glock magazines, I understand that Glock probably won't sell directly to a competitor. I can assign PMAGs for training. Normally, I carry the gun with a Glock OEM magazine that I know will be reliable.
The magazines they send are Glock 19 Magpul magazines. This includes 15 shells, but if you're on a budget, you can also get the 10 shell version.

The great thing about getting Glock magazines is that you can use the factory 24-, 33-, or 17-round magazines (or heck, even the Glock drum) on the gun. It offers you different power options.
So it doesn't really help when trying to insert a magazine. It's easy enough with good technique, but it won't give you an edge over many other guns the way a standard Glock Gen 5 does.
Now, one of the advantages of the Shadow system is that it comes with a good polymer magazine. It can be attached to a weapon and it really catches fire. The downside of this is that it also has a negative impact on privacy. The grip adds a lot of width.
It works very effectively, but I chose not to run it on my gun because I plan to use the MR920L for concealed carry.

Instead, they tried to improve the ergonomics of the Gen 3 19 frame in general, resulting in the feel of the pistol being only reminiscent of the original design.
The Shadow System MR920L uses a removable backing system that allows you to change the grip angle of the gun. They offer three different sizes so you can adjust the gun and grip angle to suit your shooting style.
This little lip allows you to put your pinky in there and get a little more power in the frame. The muzzle, combined with the gun's beavertail and pointed tip, forces your hand toward the gun.
They added an undercut under the trigger guard. This combined with the other two features mentioned above really pushes this hand. This naturally gives you a better grip on the MR920L.

If you've shot 3rd Gen Glocks before, you know that in the factory stock configuration, with no undercut, you have to work really hard to get a high grip on the gun.
You also get a "glock joint" as a result. (I'm not saying you won't get anything anyway, but it will be much less, and as I said before, really get your hands on the gun.)
This weapon has a light beavertail. This will prevent someone from biting the slide, which can be a problem for some Gen3 Glock users.
What I don't like about the beavertail is that it's a little less comfortable if you grip it with your thumb on the front sight before drawing your gun.

This creates more space in the net where your hand has to move. Because of this, you can probably reverse the indicator you get when holding your firearm.
If you don't keep your thumb on the front sight while drawing the firearm, that's actually a huge advantage and you'll really like the design.
Another interesting addition to the frame is the cutout at the front of the frame, just behind the rail.
These cutouts allow you to insert your thumb to gain leverage. When firing, it creates a small rack that allows you to deal with firepower and recoil.

They are the same on both sides with the texture of that part of the gun. Personally, I don't use them when carrying a firearm, but they are there if you have the option I don't see any real downsides to them.
Aggressive enough to get good grip. It's uncomfortable to carry, if not excessively so.
It has a slightly different texture. In terms of how it looks, the Shadow System unit is almost identical.
Overall, the MR920L doesn't exactly feel comfortable in the hand, but it does feel secure. Every day, I prioritize safety over comfort when it comes to controlling the recoil of a firearm.

Ergonomically, it is great for shooting. If you are looking for a gun that feels comfortable in your hand, this is not for you. It forces your hand where it needs to go to grip the firearm properly.
Serrations work really well for firearm control. There are also two lightning bolt cutouts just in front of the launch port.
These provide a nice little aesthetic protrusion allowing the copper-plated barrel to be seen from the slide.
The rear serrations are equally aggressive and the slider works well for shifting. They don't look sharp at all, but they work really well even if your hands are sweaty or bloody.
Review: Xr920 From Shadow Systems
I noticed bad machining marks on the front groove of my gun. It looks like they let the tool wear a bit for that part of the firearm. Conversely, the rendering of the back and top notch is mostly very clear.
The front caterpillar has several grooves on the front side. This tells me that my gun may have been an unlucky gun with a tool that went too far.
The MR920L is a lot cheaper than buying something like a full agency build, but it's also more expensive than a factory Glock. It would be better if these machining marks were not in the grooves of the firearm.
At the end of the day, it's a weapon I'll shoot and use, so I'm not that worried about it.
